NETHERLANDS: Arriva has won the next contract to operate passenger trains on the Zutphen – Hengelo – Oldenzaal line and local bus services in Twente.
Incumbent operator Keolis had also bid for the Twente-ZHO contract awarded by Overijssel province with Gelderland participating in the rail element.
The contract includes a subsidy of €27·5m/year. It is to start on December 10 2023 and run for a maximum of five years, a relatively short term which is intended to give time for the development of plans for the more sustainable operation of the non-electrified rail route.
Arriva will use the current fleet of Alstom Lint 41 diesel multiple-units, offering wi-fi and an accessible toilet, as well a fleet of new electric buses. Staff will transfer from Keolis to Arriva.
