The contract extension will allow the operator to support ongoing 25 kV 60 Hz electrification works and the subsequent transition to electric operation using a fleet of Stadler Kiss electric multiple-units.

USA: The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board has awarded Herzog subsidiary TransitAmerica Services a five-year extension to its current contract to operate Caltrain commuter services, which link San Francisco with San Jose.

The contract extension will allow the operator to support ongoing 25 kV 60 Hz electrification works and the subsequent transition to electric operation using a fleet of Stadler Kiss electric multiple-units.

In 2011 the board awarded TASI an operating contract running for an initial five years from May 2012, with options for five one-year extensions which were exercised in February 2017 and run to June 30 2022. The contract will now run until June 30 2027.
