ITALY: National operator Trenitalia took delivery of the first of six Alstom Jazz EMUs for its Sicilian network at Palermo Centrale station on September 20. The new unit then operated a service to Bagheria and back for invited guests.
The Jazz fleet is due to enter passenger service on September 26. Four units are expected to be operating local services from Palermo in October.
Part of Alstom's Coradia Meridian family, the 160 km/h Jazz EMUs each have 292 seats and two wheelchair spaces, providing level boarding through the use of retractable steps. The EMUs are also equipped with onboard CCTV, passenger information screens and power sockets for charging mobile phones and other devices.
