On June 20 the New York State Senate confirmed the appointment of Thomas Prendergast as Chairman & CEO of New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority, more than two months after his nomination by Governor Andrew Cuomo. Formerly President of New York City Transit, Prendergast has served as Interim Executive Director at MTA since Joseph Lhota stepped down on January 1.
Prendergast has extensive railway experience, having previously headed up both Long Island Rail Road and Vancouver's regional transport authority, Translink. At his confirmation hearing he told senators 'I can't think of a better job to be in.'
