BRAZIL: A one-stop extension of São Paulo monorail Line 15 from São Mateus to Jardim Colonial was inaugurated on December 29, taking the operational length of the line to 13∙4 km.
Initially the station is only open between 10.00 and 15.00 each day, and passengers have to change trains at São Mateus station. This is because the crossover is not yet completed at Jardim Colonial, so a shuttle is in operation using a single vehicle. Full operation is expected to start by the end of February.
Construction on the 1∙75 route-km extension started in May 2019, and it is forecast to attract a further 40 000 daily users to Line 15 when fully operational.
Line 15 initially opened in 2014, and it has been operated by private concessionaire ViaMobilidade since March 2019.
The municipality has plans to extend the route at both ends, eastwards from Jardim Colonial to Cidade Tiradentes and west from Vila Prudente to an interchange with metro Line 10 at Ipiranga.
