DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: The Monotel SDC consortium has been awarded a 36-month contract to provide construction supervision and commissioning services for the monorail under construction in Santiago de los Caballeros.
The line will run 16 km from Cienfuegos in the northwest of the country’s second largest city to Madre y Maestra in the southeast, with 16 stations. Ridership is predicted at 200 000 passengers per day.
The Monotel SDC consortium is led by Brazilian company Concremat and comprises operator Metrô São Paulo, local partner Itrans and Grupo AM of Venezuela.
The project is being financed by national bank Banreservas. Construction started in March, with completion scheduled for November 2025.
