EUROPE: With plans to celebrate 2021 as the Year of Rail having been disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, five European transport associations have jointly called on the European Union to extend and expand the concept and make 2022 the European Year of Rail & Public Transport.
UITP, European Metropolitan Transport Authorities, European Passenger Transport Operators, Polis Network and the European Passengers’ Federation said 2022 represents a unique opportunity to promote the essential role of public transport, and expanding the current Year of Rail activities to encompass public transport would offer a chance to put current and potential customers of all modes at the centre of activities.
