The European Commission aims to support projects fostering synergies between transport and energy infrastructure.

EUROPE: The European Commission has announced a Connecting Europe Facility call for proposals which aims to support projects fostering synergies between transport and energy infrastructure.

A total of €40m is available to finance up to 60% of the cost of studies supporting ‘smart, sustainable and inclusive growth’. Applicants have until December 13 to submit proposals, with the outcome to be published by April 2017.

‘With this Connecting Europe Facility call, we aim to bridge the gap between transport and energy’, said Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc. ‘Transport in the EU depends on oil for about 94% of its energy needs. Supporting the transition to low-emission alternative energy is therefore imperative to reach the EU's decarbonisation objectives and to create a resilient energy union.’
