MATERIALS: Polymer bearing manufacturer Igus has introduced a new variant of its Iglidur tribopolymer material, RW370, which complies with EU fire protection standard EN 45545 for use on railway vehicles.
It is intended for applications such as door guides and hinges, rotating joints and adjusting mechanisms for seats and tables.
‘Mechanical components must be stable, strong and reliable, capable of withstanding high cycle rates, harsh environments and fluctuating weather conditions’, according to Robert Dumayne, director of Drytech Bearings at Igus. ‘Without requiring external lubrication, Igus Drytech high-performance polymers deliver wear-resistant and maintenance-free continuous operation, improving efficiency as well as being versatile and cost-effective.’
