CZECH REPUBLIC: Praha transport authority DPHMP was due to inaugurate a 4·6 km underground extension of metro Line C from Ládví eastwards to the northern suburb of Letnany on May 9.
The extension serves stations at Strízkov, Prosek and Letnany, where a bus interchange and park and ride facility has been provided.
A consortium of Metrostav, Skanska CZ and Subterr began construction work in November 2004, using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method. The final cost including fitting out of the stations was KC15bn, significantly higher than the initial estimate of KC9·8bn. A €75m credit was provided by the European Investment Bank.
Praha's three metro lines now total 59·2 km, with 57 stations.
