THAILAND: Approval has been granted for an extension of Bangkok’s future Pink Line monorail.

The 34·5 km Pink Line from Khrae Rai to Min Buri with 30 stations is now 72% complete, with the first section expected to open this year and the full route in 2022. The trainsets are being supplied by CRRC Puzhen Bombardier Transportation.

The 3 km two-station extension from Si Rat to Muang Thong Thani is expected to follow in 2024 and carry close to 14 000 passengers/day.

The reported 3·37bn baht cost of building the extension is to be financed from a mix of public and private sector sources under a joint investment agreement between Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand and Pink Line concessionaire BSR, a joint venture of BTS Group Holdings, Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction and Ratchaburi Electricity Generation Holding.
