USA: The Chicago Transit Authority approved a contract for the planning and preliminary engineering services of the 8·5 km Red Line extension to T Y Lin International Great Lakes on February 10.
The three-year contract worth $38·3bn has up to six one-year extensions, and is the final step before the Federal Project Development phase, which will see the Federal Transit Administration evaluate the project for potential funding under the New Starts program.
The agreement includes preparations for the extension’s Final Environmental Impact Statement.
If selected, CTA would move the extension into the engineering phase and negotiate a full funding grant agreement with the FTA.
