CANADA: Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have issued a request for proposals to the three groups shortlisted for the contract to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Hamilton Light Rail Transit project.
The Hamilton LRT project is to be undertaken using IO’s Alternative Financing & Procurement DBFOM model. The east–west line would be 14 km long, with 17 stops and a maintenance depot. IO and Metrolinx expect to award the contract next year, with completion planned for 2024.
‘The Hamilton LRT is a transformational project that will connect McMaster University to Eastgate, providing fast and reliable transit’, said Minister of Transportation Kathryn McGarry when the RFP was announced on April 13. ‘Today we take the next step on a project that will better serve Hamilton residents, shorten commute times and help people get to work and get home faster.’
