INDONESIA: Operator MRT Jakarta has awarded a joint venture of Hutama Karya and Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Construction a 4.6tr rupiah contract to build section CP203 of MRT Phase 2, which comprises a 1·4 km tunnel from Mangga Besar to Kota Tua with two stations at Kota and Glodok.
Construction is scheduled to start in September for completion in August 2027.
The stations will have sunken entrances designed to preserve views of heritage buildings in the old city area.
‘The construction of MRT Phase 2A, Bundaran HI - Kota Tua, will pay attention to the protection of cultural heritage sites while supporting the regeneration of areas that have high historical and cultural value’, said MRT Jakarta President William Sabandar at contract signing on April 20. He said MRT Jakarta would also encourage transit oriented development along the line through partnerships and collaboration with the community and stakeholders.
The operator hopes to sign contracts for construction of the remaining sections of the extension by July.
