CANADA: A C$500m financing package for the construction of a Réseau Express Métropolitain automated metro station at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport was announced on April 16.
The C$600m station development is being led by Aéroports de Montréal, which will provide up to C$100m and repay loans to be provided by Investissement Québec (C$100m) and Canada Infrastructure Bank (C$300m). Transport Canada will provide a further C$100m for the project as part of a programme to support large airports.
Opening of the REM branch to the airport is planned for the end of 2024
Philippe Rainville, President & CEO of Aéroports de Montréal, said the station ‘is highly strategic for the REM network since it will not only enhance Montréal’s competitiveness but also ensure the attractiveness of the airport for passengers and employees in the community.’
Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra said ’our government clearly stated its commitment to ensuring that critical infrastructure projects at Canadian airports was a priority. The funding announced today will ensure that Montrealers and all Canadians benefit from an efficient and green connectivity to the Montréal-Trudeau International Airport.’
