RUSSIA: Sole bidder Mosproekt-3 has been awarded a contract to extend the Nizhny Novgorod metro’s Avtozavodskaya Line 3 km underground from Gorkovskaya station to Sennaya. This will be the first urban rail extension funded via a government infrastructure loan, with an initial 8·3bn roubles allocated.

The 35·5bn rouble contract awarded on November 30 includes 1bn roubles for design and documentation, which will begin immediately with construction expected to be completed at end of 2025. Requirements include minimising the impact of construction on surface transport operations.

‘The project will significantly improve the transport accessibility of the mountainous part of the city, taking into account the capacity of the streets of the historic centre’, said Gleb Nikitin, Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
