AUSTRALIA: New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian and NSW Transport & Infrastructure Minister Andrew Constance announced the preferred route for the revised Parramatta light rail project on February 17.
The first phase is now expected to link Westmead with Carlingford via central Parramatta and Camellia, replacing the existing single-line railway between Camellia and Carlingford. The 12 km line would have 16 stops, with services running every 7½ min. Design capacity would be 10 000 passengers/h. Subject to completing an environmental impact assessment, public consultation on the first phase is expected to start in mid-2017.
The remainder of the 22 route-km T-shaped route selected in 2015, between Camellia and Strathfield via Olympic Park, has now been designated as the second stage, and which is being ‘developed in collaboration with Sydney Metro West’. Planning for this phase is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
