BRAZIL: Salvador monorail PPP concessionaire leader BYD has awarded SENER a contract to prepare detailed designs for the railway systems.
The 23·6 km straddle monorail with 25 stations will run from São João Island to an interchange with the existing metro lines 1 and 2 at Acceso Norte.
SENER previously prepared the conceptual designs for the project, and will now undertake detailed design of the power supply, signalling, communications and platform door systems.
The R$2·5bn project will use BYD’s SkyRail automated monorail design, which is already operational in the Chinese city of Yinchuan.
