ALGERIA: Construction of the Sétif tramway started on May 8. The line is being built by a consortium of Yapi Merkezi and Alstom under a 38bn dinar contract awarded in late 2013. Work is scheduled to take 40 months.
The 22·4 km east-west line will link Sétif University with El Bez via Central University, the bus station, Ain Fouara and Tebinet Ain. There will be 30 stops. A fleet of Alstom Citadis vehicles will run at 4 min intervals, and ridership is expected to be 5 000 passengers/h.
