UK: Siemens Mobility is to open a £7m traction drive and motor maintenance facility at the ‘rail village’ being developed around its future rolling stock factory in Goole.
To be built by local contractor GMI Construction Group for opening in 2023, the facility will undertake UK rolling stock traction drive and motor maintenance work which is currently done in Leeds, and will also maintain heating, ventilation and air conditioning units. The maintenance of further rolling stock components is expected to be confirmed in the future.
Speaking in Goole on June 30, Minister for Industry Lee Rowley said ‘this rail village will keep east Yorkshire at the cutting edge of the rail industry, creating jobs and driving growth for businesses in the supply chain. Its use of British-made steel and commitment to inspiring the next generation of engineers by working with schools means this project embodies the very best of British manufacturing.’
