CHINA: Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co has developed a condition-based maintenance planning platform for metro rolling stock which is to be expanded to cover all elements of urban rail networks.

ZTEC said Foresee had been developed because of the difficulty of scaling-up traditional scheduled and fault-based maintenance methods to meet rapidly growing demand, with around 4 400 trainsets needing to be overhauled during China’s 14th five-year plan in 2021-25.

Foresee monitors components such as traction motors, converters, high-voltage equipment and running gear throughout a vehicle’s life-cycle, providing a comprehensive condition-based maintenance plan including information on the personnel and materials needed.

ZTEC plans to develop the capabilities of Foresee beyond rolling stock to provide a comprehensive intelligent operations and maintenance tool covering other urban rail hardware including electromechanical systems, power supplies, signalling and platform screen doors.
