RUSSIA: The first vehicle to a new design which Oktyabrsky Electric Railway Car Repair Plant is supplying for St Petersburg metro Line 1 was unveiled at the Smart Transport trade fair which opened on May 25.
The 10·5bn rouble contract for 20 eight-car trainsets was awarded to the Transmashholding subsidiary in August 2015, with deliveries scheduled to run to 2020. The trainsets comprise type 81-722.1, 723.1 and 724.1 cars designed to technical specifications developed by specialists from the metro operator. The driving cars and four of the intermediate cars have traction motors, with two of the intermediate cars being unpowered. The driving cars include wheelchair spaces.
The trainsets have glass fibre reinforced front ends with emergency evacuation ladders, LED front, side and interior lighting, larger windows in the doors than previous designs, lightweight ceiling panels and a new livery.
