FINLAND: The City of Tampere announced on June 22 that it had selected the Tralli consortium of Pöyry, VR Track and YIT to build the city’s planned €250m light rail line. The contract will be signed after a three-week standstill period.
Tralli beat bids from Lemminkäinen with Ramboll, Alstom and A-Insinöörit Suunnittelu; Gülermak; and Destia with Siemens and Sito. The work will be carried out under an alliance model.
The 23·5 km route would link the city centre with the Sampola, where branches would continue to the University of Tampere and Hervanta. There would be 23 to 25 stops.
Design is to begin in July, after which a start date for construction is to be negotiated. Pöyry and VR Track will be jointly responsible for engineering in the both phases, and VR Track and YIT will be in charge of construction. The project’s first phase is due to be completed in 2019 and the second phase in 2023.
