GERMANY: Lightweight aircraft materials supplier Elbe Flugzeugwerke has announced its first contract to supply rolling stock components to Stadler Rail, saying the order is a milestone in the expansion of its activities in the rail sector.
The initial order covers the supply of durable floor panels for 25 ST15 trams which Stadler is to deliver to Darmstadt operator HEAG Mobilo, with further vehicles expected to follow.
Announcing the order on September 30, Dresden-based EFW said lightweight materials would be ‘increasingly indispensable’ for sustainability in the rail sector. EFW has 30 years of experience in the aviation sector, including the supply of Airbus interior components. It has supplied parts for trams in six countries including Australia. As well as floors, the manufacturer offers other flat panels and complex 3D components.
