CHINA: Hong Kong’s transport operator has launched the MTR·Care app which is designed to make travel more convenient for passengers with special requirements.
A ‘simplified and elderly-friendly’ trip planner includes larger text and graphics, voice input, auto-setting of frequently visited stations, easy-to-understand route suggestions and recommended boarding positions.
In-station navigation for visually impaired passengers is to be trialled at Exhibition Centre station, with voice navigation and location-specific suggested routes to station facilities.
Further functions are to be added in the second half of next year, including a portable ramp booking service, a call for assistance function for the hearing impaired and real-time information on the operational status of station lifts.
‘The MTR·Care app brings greater convenience to passengers in special need, encouraging and facilitating them to travel with ease’, said Annie Leung, MTR Corp’s General Manager, Marketing & Customer Experience. ‘Our development team has invited representatives of the visually-impaired and elderly groups to participate in the design and trial of the app functions so that we understand more about their needs and work together for a more inclusive society.’
