INTERNATIONAL: New York-based transport service planning software company Via has acquired UK-based journey planning app maker Citymapper.
Via said the acquisition announced on March 16 would accelerate its vision ‘to build the end-to-end digital infrastructure for transit systems’, by adding Citymapper’s ‘intuitive and beautifully designed’ real-time planning technology for passengers to its own service planning software for transport agencies.
The Citymaper app which is used by more than 50 million people in over 100 cities will continue to be available, with Via planning to expand its global reach and integrate the journey planning and data technology into its platform.
‘By bringing our teams together, we see an exciting opportunity to deliver Citymapper’s capabilities to cities and transit agencies all over the world, so that they can create the most user-friendly and relevant transit experience for their communities’, said Via co-founder and CEO Daniel Ramot.
