GERMANY: Following a competitive tender, Köln transport authority KVG has awarded Cubic Transportation Systems a contract to provide a mobile and online ticket purchase and passenger account management service covering operators in the Rhein-Sieg region.
Cubic said the deal was worth €920 000 over five years plus an estimated €600 000 in transaction fees. The service is expected to go live in early 2019.
A similar app which Cubic provides in Frankfurt has been used to buy more than 10 million tickets since it launched in 2010.
‘Cubic is delighted to have been awarded this new mobile ticketing contract, which follows the region’s largest competitive tender in many years’, said Stefan Jacobs, Managing Director of CTS Deutschland, on November 22. ‘This contract expands our presence in Germany beyond Frankfurt and we’re thrilled to work with KVB to deliver a fast, easy-to-use, mobile app-based system’.
