USA: The Federal Transit Administration announced on April 27 that it is to provide up to $55m per year in grants through its Low or No Emission (Low-No) Bus programme. The deadline for applications is June 26, and winners are to be announced by September 30. The programme is to run until fiscal year 2020.
The Low-No programme will support the introduction of locally-made technologies such as batteries and hydrogen fuel cells. Local transport agencies, state transport departments, and Native American tribes are eligible for the grants, which will be evaluated by criteria including the expected reductions in energy consumption compared with standard diesel buses.
