GERMANY: An autonomous mobile robot with a gripper arm for the automated handling of folding pins on container wagons is being developed by Hamburger Hafen & Logistik and the Fraunhofer Centre for Maritime Logistics & Services.
The pins are installed at various positions on container wagons and are currently manually raised or moved according to the size of the container in a time-consuming procedure.
An autonomous robot is to be developed and tested under real conditions, along with software connected to the port logistics system to allow the control centre to monitor and manage pin handling.
HHLA’s rail subsidiary Metrans will provide wagons and operational data integration.
The project is supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport & Digital Infrastructure as part of the IHATEC initiative for innovative port technologies.
