SOUTH KOREA: Ricardo’s Seoul-based rail team has completed the assessment of LS Electric’s LTran IX2 computer-based interlocking against international safety standards, enabling it to be launched in the global market.
LTran IX2 CBI 520V is an evolution of a product previously approved by Ricardo Certification in 2015, with several changes for more flexibility in configuration and to meet the requirements of a wider range of domestic and international markets.
These included a redesigned central interlocking unit, additional ethernet interfaces and serial interfaces for communicating to adjacent CBIs. The software has also been revised.
Ricardo Rail Korea was appointed in April 2020 to independently assess whether, following these changes, the safety functions of the LTran IX2 CBI 520V continue to achieve a Safety Integrity Level 4 against the latest EN 50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129 standards.
Though Ricardo could use certain aspects from its previous assessments, the scope of the project required a full appraisal of both the development cycle and final performance, which took 14 months to complete.
