SWITZERLAND: Westermo is to supply networking technology to support the train control and management systems on the next generation of Flirt EMUs that Stadler is to supply to Swiss Federal Railways, Thurbo and RegionAlps.
In October last year Stadler won a framework contract to supply 510 EMUs, with a firm order for an initial 286 units worth SFr2bn.
Westermo is to supply an updated variant of its Viper Ethernet switches to manage the onboard data networks. The EN 50155-certified switches feature M12 push-pull connectors to simplify installation and increase reliability, and Westermo’s WeOS operating software.
‘Westermo’s expert support will ensure the data networks provide the reliability and robustness required for critical onboard systems’, said Mark Gibbs, Global Marketing Director for Train Networks.
Deliveries will run for 10 years from 2023, with the Flirt fleet due to enter service from 2026.
