SPAIN: Indra is developing a ‘smart gate’‚ which it envisages would be able to digitally identify wagons as they are handled at freight terminals.
The technology would be a development of Indra’s electronic identification and toll collection gantries used on motorways, combining laser sensors, high resolution imaging, electronic tags and RFID technology with rolling stock identification algorithms.
This would be linked to a multimodal data exchange platform enabling the various organisations involved in handing a shipment to access information about arrival and despatch times.
The work forms part the FR8Hub project, which brings together 14 organisations from Sweden, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Spain and has been awarded EU funding as part of the Shift2Rail programme.
