THALES: Thales has presented two tools for big data analytics at the UITP Global Public Transport Summit 2019.
Thales’ NAIA software captures data on passenger flow, platform crowding, train occupancy and intervals between trains. It then analyses this to help operators to understand how passengers behave and respond appropriately.
Using the number of discounted tickets sold to elderly passengers, for instance, NAIA can build up a picture of the travel patterns of such passengers. This could help to determine which stations would benefit most from the installation of lifts, and can also be used to plan targeted advertising.
Thales also presented its TIRIS predictive maintenance and operational support tool. The company says that this helps to decrease maintenance time and increase availability, as well as making maintenance more predictable and thereby reducing its cost.
