INNOTRANS: Alstom’s iLint hydrogen-powered multiple-unit set what the manufacturer says is a world record on September 15 when it arrived in München having completed a journey of 1 175 km from Bremervörde on a single tank of fuel.
Following the record run, the trainset was moved to Berlin where it is running shuttles for invited guests between Spandau and Ostbahnhof during the InnoTrans trade fair. According to Alstom’s Coradia iLint Product Manager Stefan Schrank, the two-car trainset selected for the demonstration was the most popular choice among potential operators of hydrogen trains, although longer formations are being offered to the market. Up to three two-car trainsets could run in multiple, he added.
The demonstrator was drawn from the second batch of iLints to be built after the initial two prototypes which were first unveiled in 2016. Six of the trains are now in revenue service on Weser-Elbe-Netz regional passenger services and Alstom expects to deliver a further 35 to Niedersachsen Land transport authority LNVG and Rhein-Main’s RMV by the end of the year.
