SLOVAKIA: National operator ZSSK has signed a contract for preferred bidder Stadler to supply four six-car Kiss double-deck electric multiple-units for use on regional lines in western and central Slovakia from the end of 2023.
The 160 km/h six-car 25 kV 50 Hz EMUs will be 155 m long with more than 600 seats in two classes, a step-free entrance area and four toilets including one accessible for passengers with reduced mobility. The multifunctional areas will have space for wheelchair users, bicycles, prams and luggage.
The EMUs will feature air-conditioning, a modern passenger information system, wi-fi and CCTV, with roof-mounted cameras covering the pantographs. There will also be energy consumption measuring system and a ‘precise’ passenger counting system.
‘We are very pleased that we have succeeded in winning this tender and that we will be able to supply our reliable, safe and comfortable Kiss double-deck multiple-units to Slovakia for the first time’, said Stadler Deputy CEO Ansgar Brockmeyer when the contract was signed on December 16.
Stadler was named preferred bidder in August, beating a bid from Škoda Transportation which has been the only supplier of standard gauge EMUs to ZSSK in recent years.
