UK: GB Railfreight announced an order for a further 13 Electro-Motive Diesel Class 66 locomotives on February 7. This follows an order for eight announced in September 2013, and will take the operator's Class 66 fleet to 71 locomotives when they are delivered in late 2014.
GBRf said it had placed the order before new EU non-road mobile machinery regulations come into force from January 2015, as this 'could impact the ability to obtain compliant and affordable' diesel locomotives.
GBRf has also purchased 16 Class 92 dual-system electric locomotives from its parent company, Groupe Eurotunnel subsidiary Europorte. This 'will help grow international business and is also an important step towards preparing the company for the electrification of sections of the UK's rail freight system', said Managing Director John Smith.
