POLAND: PKP Intercity has taken delivery of the first two of 13 Class SU4220 diesel locomotives which H Cegielski-Poznań is rebuilding from Fablok-built Class SM42s.
Intended for shunting, light passenger and rescue operations, the SU4220s have been equipped with two low-emission diesel engines that meet EU Stage V emissions standards, replacing the original eight-cylinder 600 kW prime movers. They are also fitted with a 3 kV electric train supply for passenger work.
The 90·3m złoty contract to rebuild the locomotives was signed in 2018. It is being co-financed by the EU’s Infrastructure & Environment Programme for 2014-20. Deliveries are due to be completed by the third quarter of 2022.
