GERMANY: DB Regio has formally awarded Stadler a contract to supply 19 four-car Flirt electric multiple-units for use on MoselLux services along the River Mosel valley between Koblenz, Trier and Luxembourg.
The EMUs are scheduled to enter service on the Koblenz – Trier – Perl route in December 2024, and on the Traben-Trarbach – Bullay line once it is electrified in 2029.
The EMUs will have a 245 seats, with more than half being in bays and including 20 in first class with a wider pitch, and a total capacity of 507 passengers.
They will have air-conditioning, wi-fi and a passenger information system including real-time connections. There will be step-free access, one of the two toilets will be wheelchair-accessible, and there will be spaces for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
The MoselLux operating contract awarded by Rheinland-Pfalz transport authority SPNV-Nord and Saarland’s transport ministry puts an emphasis on cycle capacity; the trains will have space for 30 bicycles in the end cars, with a clearly labelled one-way system for boarding and alighting with bikes through different doors.
