POLAND: SKM Trójmiasto has selected Newag to supply two electric multiple-units for use on the route between Gdańsk, Gdynia and Wejherowo from the second quarter of 2016.
The 160 km/h EMUs will be a customised version of Newag’s Impuls family, modified to have a 960 mm floor height and retractable steps to accommodate the atypical platform heights on the SKM Trójmiasto network.
The tender specified EMUs with a maximum length of 90 m, four doors per side, 144 seats and a standing capacity of 359 at 5 passengers/m2.
Bids were assessed on price (80%) and floor height (20%). Both Newag and Pesa offered the same floor height, but Newag was ranked one point ahead overall with a price of 35·6m złoty compared to 36·0m złoty from Pesa.
