CZECH REPUBLIC: National operator ČD has awarded Slovak company ŽOS Zvolen a contract to refurbish the 22 Class 841.2 Stadler RegioShuttle RS1 railcars that it acquired second-hand from Germany’s SWEG in December 2020.
Eight unrefurbished trains have been in service in the Ústecký and Středočeský regions since late September 2021. The modernisation will include installation of air-conditioning, USB and 230 V power sockets, wi-fi, an audio-visual information system and new upholstery. The first modernised railcar is due to emerge in September 2022.
- On December 8 the first Class 646 Stadler GTW 2/6 two-car DMU modernised by ŽOS Zvolen entered service on the Olomouc – Drahanovice line. ČD acquired 12 Class 646 DMUs from DB Regio in early 2019, and the modernised units are scheduled to be in service in the Olomouc region by mid-2022. They are to be renumbered as Class 848.
