Siemens Mobility to deliver Vectron multisystem locomotives to Railpool for the first time

EUROPE: Railpool has awarded Siemens Mobility a contract to supply 20 Vectron MS electric locomotives suitable for operation in Germany, Austria, Poland, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia.

‘We want to position Railpool even better to handle anticipated market developments, especially in eastern Europe’, said the leasing company’s Chief Financial Officer Ingo Wurzer when the order was announced on August 19.

The 6·4 MW locomotives with a maximum speed of 200 km/h will be equipped with ETCS as well as national train control systems. They are scheduled to be delivered in phases from in March 2022.

‘Our first Vectron multisystem locomotives will enable our customers to transport freight and passengers across 11 countries along the Eastern Corridor’, said Railpool CEO Torsten Lehnert. ‘We will be creating an attractive offer for rail transport companies that meets their freight and passenger transport needs along one of Europe’s most important rail corridors. We at Railpool can not only flexibly and optimally serve the key transport routes in Europe, thanks to our strong fleet of more than 400 locomotives, but also maximise the availability of these locomotives by providing our full range of proven services.’

The order will take Railpool’s fleet of Siemens-built locomotives to 53. Siemens Mobility has now sold more 1 100 Vectrons to a total of 56 customers, and the locos are certified for operation in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
