SPAIN: Stadler has been awarded a €308m contract to supply a further 20 double-deck electric multiple-units 200 m long to national operator RENFE.
The firm order announced on December 15 has been placed an option on a March 2021 contract which covered an initial 24 EMUs 100 m long and 25 sets 200 m long, with options for 44 more. Exercising the option takes the total value of the order to €1·3bn.
The EMUs will be manufactured at Stadler’s València factory. They will be used on routes around Madrid and Barcelona to replace existing stock. The 1 668 mm gauge 3 kV DC trains will have a maximum speed of 140 km/h.
