RUSSIA: Central Suburban Passenger Co has awarded Transmashholding’s Demikhovsky factory a contract to supply 21 Class EP2D electric multiple-units, to be financed by Sberbank Leasing.
The 11-car 3kV DC EMUs will be 244 m long with a capacity of 2 866 passengers. Three will have folding steps for use at stations with either high or low platforms, while 11 will be for stations with high platforms. The 5 MW EMUs will have a maximum speed 120 km/h.
CPPK already operates a fleet of 60 Class EP2D EMUs, which offer operating costs between 20% and 50% lower than older Russian designs.
