GERMANY: Transdev subsidiary NordWestBahn has awarded Stadler a €100m contact to supply 16 Flirt electric multiple-units for use on Regio-S-Bahn Bremen/Niedersachsen services from December 2022.
The order announced on June 13 follows the award in April of a competitively-tendered contract for incumbent NordWestBahn to continue to operate the services from December 2021 until December 2036. The additional trainsets will take the fleet to 51 units, increasing capacity and providing a larger operating reserve.
The four-car 160 km/h EMUs will be 86·9 m long, with seven doors per side to allow for rapid boarding and alighting. Each unit will have 260 seats and a capacity of 527 passengers. There will be standard and PRM toilets, as well as wi-fi and a real-time passenger information system.
Stadler said the ‘particularly large’ multi-purpose areas would have space for bulky luggage, large pushchairs and up to 30 bicycles, with sockets for charging electric bikes.
The latest order will take Transdev’s German Flirt fleet to a total of 118 units of various configurations. ‘We are delighted to be able to continue our constructive and successful co-operation with Transdev’, said Jure Mikolčić, CEO of Stadler in Germany.
