EUROPE: The TX Logistik subsidiary of FS Group’s freight business Mercitalia is to lease seven Railpool-owned Bombardier Transportation Class 186 Traxx multi-system electric locomotives approved for operation in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, as well as two Class 187 locos with last mile engines and approval for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The locomotives are to be used on intermodal trains transiting Switzerland from 2021.
‘Fleet modernisation is an important prerequisite for future traffic on the Switzerland corridor’, said TX Logistik COO Albert Bastius on December 7. ‘We see good growth potential here, not least due to the infrastructure improvements on this corridor. The handling capacities of the new terminals that Mercitalia is currently building in northern Italy also make new connections through Switzerland attractive.’
