NORWAY: The Finnish national railway’s VR FleetCare rolling stock business has won its first contract in Norway, covering the refurbishment of eight former Deutsche Bahn BDcmz 874.1 couchette cars which Vy Tåg has acquired for use on Bergensbanen services.
Refurbishment will be undertaken at VR FleetCare’s Oulu site, and external work including repainting at Pieksämäki. The work will be completed this year. The aim is to improve safety and comfort, and winterise the coaches for Norwegian conditions.
‘This contract signed with Vy Tog is an extremely significant first step for us in the markets opening up in Norway’, said VR FleetCare’s CEO Kimmo Soini on April 6. ‘This strengthens our confidence in the future and promotes our international growth goals.’
Amund Kjelland, Head of Tendering & Projects, Rolling Stock, at Vy, said VR Fleetcare ‘provided a strong and competitive offer that meets our needs’.
