CHINA: Test running has commenced on a 14·3 km extension of the Dalian Fast Rail Link. The first trains took to the branch on July 8 after the extension was handed over by the China Railway Electrification Bureau, which led the construction project.
The present Line 3 provides a suburban service linking Dalian’s main line station with Jin Shi Tan, passing through the city’s Development Zone — a distance of 49 km. The line serves 12 stations, and offers connections to Dalian’s two-line tram network.
The extension diverges from the existing line at Development Zone station, serving seven stations with a terminus at Jiuli in the northern district of Jinzhou. It is designed for 120 km/h running and was built at a cost of 1·9bn yuan.
