The UK government has agreed to devolve responsibility for three inner-suburban rail services out of London Liverpool Street station to Transport for London, which would appoint an operator under a concession similar to the London Overground contract; exact details are still to be finalised. The Indian government has extended the life of the Ministry of Railways/Government of Maharashtra joint railway development agency Mumbai Railway Vikas Corp for a further five years to July 11 2019. This matches the completion date of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phase II and will facilitate integration of suburban rail capacity enhancement plans with the city’s urban development plan.
