POLAND: Modertrans unveiled its first fully low-floor tram at its factory in Poznań on November 18. The official premiere of the Moderus Gamma was followed by a ceremonial test run.
The five-section Gamma is 32 m long with capacity for 244 passengers. There are 66 seats including three tip-up seats, and the tram is equipped with air-conditioning, USB chargers and a passenger-to-driver intercom. It is fitted with capacitors that store regenerated braking energy.
It has been developed under the 14m złoty ‘Innovative city tram’ R&D project co-financed by the National Centre for Research & Development and the EU. ‘During the project we combined the knowledge and experience of our company and Poznań University of Technology’, said Modertrans Rail Vehicles Director Jarosław Bakinowski. ‘Forming a consortium with the research unit, we wanted to create a product that is not only functional but also innovative.’
Modertrans was formed in 2005 and is owned by city transport operator MPK Poznań. Its tram portfolio also includes the single-section Alfa high-floor vehicle and the three-section partly low-floor Beta.
