NORWAY: Oslo transport operator Sporveien has called tenders for the supply of metro trainsets ahead of the opening of the Fornebu Line in 2027-28.
An initial firm order for 20 three-car trainsets is planned, with options for up to 90 further vehicles to be supplied within eight years.
This expand the fleet to accommodate traffic on the new line, and handle predicted population growth and help meet environmental targets.
Factors to be taken into account in the tender include operating costs, safety, environmental impact and social accountability.
Constraints include steep gradients and stations on sharp curves, as well as 80% of the network being in the open air with a challenging winter environment and proximity to the sea.
